Are the Goals You Set Even Yours?

Are the Goals You Set Even Yours?

We’re coming to that time of year where we naturally start to reflect and set intentions for the New Year. So what are my goals for 2022? I have none. Zero goals to give! Why? Because on reflection of 2021 I realised something about myself and all of us that impacts our goals and our intentions as well as our ability to meet them. I, we, the world, is shifting and transforming dramatically. I and you are not who were yesterday, just as in one years time we will be completely different versions of ourselves in comparison with who we are today. Therefore, what we want and the vision we have for ourselves and our lives SHOULD change and transform with us.

Permission to Outgrow the Goals You Once Set.

2021 has been a year filled with realisation and releasing, we have all been shedding that which no longer serves us and will continue to. We are meeting new layers of ourselves all the time and so we are constantly needing to check in, evaluate and assess where we are now, instead of waiting 12 months down the line. Our shedding and expansion is happening at a much quicker rate than every 12 months, especially since we entered the age of Aquarius. Can we give ourselves the grace to change and transform organically whether that’s on a monthly, weekly, even daily basis? Can we allow the space to flourish and expand irrespective of what it may mean for the vision we once had…even when this impacts others too?

Something else I’ve observed about myself in this process, is that many of the goals I had set previously were not from my soul. They were from a place of conditioning, perceptions I’d picked up along the way of what adulting/mothering/success should look like. Some of those goals I have met however, because they weren’t set from an aligned place it felt pretty shit to have such a sense of unfulfillment at the end of it.

Have you ever felt that way? Worked hard towards that goal, salary, promotion, holiday, home improvements, marriage- you fill in the blank, to have it and then feel completely unsatisfied? It’s because that goal wasn’t soul filled or from the heart, it was either from mass narrative of what we are told we should have or from shadow wounds believing once we have it, we will feel better about ourselves, unsurprisingly we don’t. Since what we actually need is more self love which involves being brutally honest about who we truly are in the ever-changing moment and what we genuinely desire regardless of whether our spouses, parents, friends or the neighbour down the road approves/disapproves!

Setting Intentions From a Place of Alignment Instead of Conditioning.

I had a dream a few nights back showing me some conditioned beliefs I had picked up about what a successful business looks like. I had loads of followers, insta famous clients, inbox filled with messages to be worked with etc etc. I had this suffocating feeling that I should feel happy and grateful but it felt awful!!! I felt stressed (far more stressed that I do now), overwhelmed and trapped in the crazy vortex of the online traffic of social media. I realised this is not what success or joy looks like to me. My dream then showed me what I genuinely desire, being on some sort of retreat in the wild (rowing some random boat) doing some beautiful, fun healing work with a small group of genuine gorgeous souls with Mamma Earth & the elements, holding space. I remember thinking, “Shit, I haven’t taken any pictures for my social media because I’ve been too busy having fun” and in the same breath feeling like I did not care.

I woke so deeply grateful for this dream because it very clearly showed me what success actually looks like for ME. That I don’t want or aspire to have what I’ve been told will bring me success and joy. It showed where I could be potentially setting intentions and taking action from a misaligned place based on conditioning for what I SHOULD be doing vs what I actually DESIRE to do. It was a cathartic shedding of a false belief I had of needing to be a certain way to have the experiences I want. Despite me being quite introverted, private and in love with basic, raw, face to face human connection. That this is what I value most.

So ofcourse I am not advising here avoiding setting goals for 2022, as exercising our Will is one of the most liberating and powerful things we can do as human beings especially during this time where it seems our free Will is being taken away. BUT what I am encouraging, is to be willing to allow intentions to shift and change at the rate you do. To consistently assess where your Will is placed, how it’s used and the space it comes from. In order to do this, it’s important we take the time to shed the layers of conditioning to witness without judgement who we are, what we stand for and what we TRULY value.

We can enter 2022 assessing whether we are we using our Will from the places of fear, scarcity, pride, perfectionism, societies’ ‘shoulds’ and old wounds? Or from a place of love, authenticity and alignment with genuine heart centred and soulful desires? Either way, let’s try to remember the beauty and the gift in being present with who we are and what we have right NOW as we close 2021.

I wish you presence, peace & prosperity for now and the days ahead.
